Principals Corner
Dear Schoenly Families,
My name is Kate Gordon, and I am excited to introduce myself as the newly appointed Principal of G. Austin Schoenly School. I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Spotswood family, and I look forward to leading our “little school with a big heart.”
Prior to joining the Spotswood Public School District, I spent over 18 years in Old Bridge Township Public Schools. Some of my educational experiences in Old Bridge include being a first and third grade classroom teacher and an elementary and middle school interventionist. Throughout the last twelve years, I had the opportunity to serve in various leadership roles including the following: Elementary Substitute Principal, Coordinator of Title I and Title II Programs, and Coordinator of CARES, ESSER, and High Impact Tutoring Programs. Nothing brings greater joy in my career than being a positive part of a child’s educational journey and working alongside administration, staff, students, families, and community stakeholders to create powerful and impactful programs that will benefit our students and staff.
As I embark on my first year as the principal of Schoenly, I am honored to be part of an incredible team of professionals who are dedicated and passionate about creating the best experiences for our youngest learners. The educational programs that we have at Schoenly address each child’s social, emotional, and academic needs. Through practical, hands-on learning activities, our students will begin developing the necessary skills to become independent, responsible, and productive citizens.
I strongly believe that a student’s early school years are some of the most important of their life, as it sets the framework for learning and growth. We have all heard the phrase that children are like sponges; they follow who they see and what they hear. As a result, it is crucial to establish a safe, secure environment with a predictable daily routine, both in school and at home. Schoenly staff continues to go above and beyond to create a nurturing atmosphere, where all children feel valued, respected, and loved in a positive, welcoming, and safe space.
Throughout my eighteen plus years as an educator, I have witnessed the power of partnerships with our families. The insight you have into your child is extremely powerful, as no one knows your child better than you do. We welcome and deeply appreciate your support and dedication to the children of Schoenly School.
I look forward to a wonderful and successful year with you and your child! Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
Best wishes,
Kate Gordon, Principal
